WORST TO FIRST
Worst to First - World Premier
United States
Directed by: Mitchell Stuart
64 minutes

Worst to First Is a feature-length documentary that portrays the against-all-odds inspirational story of the launch of the iconic and most successful radio station in history, New York City’s Z100. In 1983 Z100 launched from the swamps of New Jersey, where no artist would venture and the DJs had to buy their own records just to have music to play on air.

Fun, poignant and aspirational, the film features Scott Shannon and several other Hall of Fame radio personalities as well as industry legends like Clive Davis and Elvis Duran. Iconic artists who got their start on Z100 such as Jon Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, Nile Rodgers, and era superstars, Debbie Gibson and Taylor Dayne all share their personal stories of the importance of the station, their love of radio and passion for performing music.

Up against the well-funded titanic broadcasting companies of the time, Scott and his cast of misfits and unknowns took over a local easy listening radio station that resided at the bottom of the ratings in America's #1 market. Their David vs Goliath odds of success was best characterized by the powerful career maker-breaker radio reporter George Maksian of The New York Daily News as, “I hope Shannon has a round trip ticket back to Tampa,” because his style would get him run out of New York.

But the listeners heard something else. Something that spoke directly to them and in their own musical language regardless of whether they were rock, R&B or dance fans. Z100 played the hits regardless of which charts they came from or who they were intended to appeal to. They played music that was color blind and audiences began to take notice.

With their sense of what was happening on the street emboldening them, Shannon took the crushing news that Z100 landed in last place of their first ratings book and used it as a rallying cry to inspire millions of listeners. Declaring on air that with the support of the audience, he would lead the station from Worst to First, he ignited a viral campaign that predated the creation of the internet by decades. Worst to First became a movement that the city and the medium had never witnessed. In just 74 days this band of fearless and passionate oddballs and mavericks, toppled the reigning giants of the industry and brought Z100 to #1.

Capturing the times, personalities and music of the era, Worst to First portrays the ultimate David and Goliath story that built the foundation for the world's biggest radio station and the people behind the legacy that endures and continues to grow, reaching eight digit audiences daily, and continuing to influence the face of media and entertainment.

BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE
Beautiful People
United States
Directed By: Shane White
62 minutes

For too long the way people view themselves has been influenced by who and what they see portrayed as beautiful. This is a story about the ways people and organizations in the state of Arkansas are redefining beauty and contributing to breaking stigmas of fashion. The film follows Arkansas designers, creative directors, models, apparel merchandising experts and professors in their efforts to help break the stigma of the thin ideal from an area of the country that most would not think of as being diverse and inclusive. This film is really about a place, that most would likely assume is far behind when it comes to being diversly progressive, defying its own negative stigmas.

Partnerless, penniless, and under-appreciated, Rodger is an outcast void of purpose - until one fateful night when he’s abducted by aliens. Sparked by newfound motivation, Rodger embarks on a mission to get beamed up again, regardless of how many times he falls flat. WATERMAN
Waterman
United States
Directed by: Isaac Halasima93 minutes
Trailer: https://youtu.be/udFb_Adn-Oo

Surfing legend. Olympic superstar. Hawaiian Icon. American hero.

Five-time Olympic medalist and Native Hawaiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku shattered records and brought surfing to the world while overcoming a lifetime of personal challenges. Waterman explores his journey and legacy as a legendary swimmer, trailblazer, and the undisputed father of modern-day surfing, following the sport’s first-time inclusion in this year’s Games – a fitting tribute to his work promoting the sport around the globe.

Narrated by Jason Momoa, this original documentary by Sidewinder Films (At the Heart of Gold: Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal, Munich ’72 and Beyond), features commentary from surfing’s biggest stars, including newly-crowned Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore, while also delving into his personal successes, struggles and humanitarianism through rare footage, contemporary visuals and incisive interviews.

From modest roots in Waikiki, Duke swam his way to fame, becoming the face of a changing Hawaii - and a vital part of its tourism industry - as it evolved from an independent Kingdom to the 50th American state. Yet relatively few outside Hawaii know the full extent of Duke’s impact on sports, lifesaving, and combatting prejudice.

Through Duke’s incredible athletic accomplishments, personal doctrine of Aloha, and enduring gift of surfing to the world, the film explores a theme that still resonates today – the role of sports in breaking societal barriers – and celebrates his triumphs and philosophy of inclusion, challenging us all to embrace diversity and incorporate Aloha into our own lives.

From award-winning Sidewinder Films, producers of acclaimed Munich ’72 and Beyond, End Game and the recent HBO documentary At the Heart of Gold. Producers David Ulich and Dr. Steven Ungerleider, director Isaac Halasima, and executive producer Michael Cascio.

Harry, a "down on his luck" middle-aged ride-share driver is reluctantly hired by a 15 year old girl named Liz to transport the remains of her late mother to the beach at Montauk Point, Long Island. Little does Harry know, Liz has an ulterior motive as he is asked to form a criminal pact with his young passenger.

This first feature length film from Long Island, NY natives (and father/daughter filmmaking duo) Michael and Michayla Scully is a passion project in the making since December of 2018. Having been sidelined (and nearly dismantled) by the COVID-19 pandemic, MONTAUK77 found new life in the fall of 2020 and the film was finally shot in the early spring of 2021 after a successful crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo.

Inspired by such films as Leon: The Professional (1994), The Wrestler (2008) and Thunder Road (2018), MONTAUK77 hopes to win the hearts of those who cherish family above all and believe in second chances.
